Assignment: This ADDYS poster was created for a Type III poster project. The competition is an advertising contest where students and professionals compete in their selected areas for recognition. This project required the reference of a particular artist from a specific era. The artist I chose to reference was Aubrey Beardsley who reached his prime in the late 1800’s. Being a huge component of the Art Nouveau era, Beardsley’s work was very intricate and expressive.
Approach: The typeface Eccentric, acting as the header, was heavily used in the late 1800’s for fashion magazines. Those fashion magazines (like today’s) showed new clothes with hopes of standing out, just like the illustrated peacock proudly presenting his feathers in the face of judgment.
Results: The gold foil stock paper, in combination with the illustrated peacock, help to push the grandeur of the event. Also, there is a symbolism that is presented, which is action of the peacock presenting his feathers in a confident manner. There is a vulnerability when showing your work, in respect to how an audience will resonate, but presenting confidently should be done no matter what.
