Design a two page opening spread on a topic for mass publication. Use typography and imagery to convey a specific concept and feeling.

Part of a magazine prototype assignment, my chosen feature topic was on cold-weather Winter camping. I chose a bold, condensed san-serif typeface for a large scaled headline, then distressed and cracked the letterforms. I used photos with cool hues and dramatic winter imagery. I wanted the reader to get a sense of seriousness and tension, knowing that Winter camping can be dangerous if you are not prepared.

The typographic treatment—along with the juxtaposed mountain imagery—conveys a feeling of tension and un-easiness. This concept is further demonstrated by the cold and desolate image of a lone camper as nightfall approaches.
