Jeff Berry, also known as "Beachbum" Berry, co-created a line of Tiki barware with Cocktail Kingdom. These custom pieces were inspired by original cocktail bar products that were used in Tiki bars and restaurants dating back to the 1930s and have since vanished from production. The creative team at Cocktail Kingdom was responsible for designing a cohesive line of packaging and brand identity for the full line of products as well as for Beachbum Berry himself that paid homage to the origins of Tiki cocktail culture.
Approach
The Beachbum Berry Barware packaging was inspired by Tiki ephemera that existed in the 1930s-50s, such as restaurant menus, matchbooks, and patterns, but with a modern sensibility. Matte laminated paper stock was used to reduce shine and create a more vintage look.
Results
The Beachbum Berry Barware products were released via an online marketing campaign through Cocktail Kingdom and at a renowned Tiki convention called The Hukilau in Ft Lauderdale, FL. Responses to the packaging design have been overwhelmingly positive, with the client and tiki aficionados commending the design as respectful nods to Tiki culture while maintaining a uniquely modern identity.
