The objective of this project was to design a weather app that caters to a niche demographic. Targeting an audience that enjoys taking breaks outdoors, I created a weather interface that would allow users to see the current weather conditions at a glance.
As someone with a hectic schedule, I understand how hard it is to remember to plan out breaks during the day. Inspired by my love for taking naps outside during nice weather, I wanted to create an app that would tell only the necessary information and encourage individuals to take a break from their schedules to enjoy the outdoors. Only the essentials such as precipitation and UV index would be included, and would only include the current temperature up to the next three hours. I wanted to evoke a calm and friendly vibe and decided on a minimalistic design with backdrops based on the current weather. To make this app more personable, I created a mascot with a light-hearted, playful personality that provides reminders and suggestions based on the user's weather preferences.
The minimalistic style of this personalized weather app allows the user to see only the necessary weather conditions at a glance. The soft illustrations and friendly persona Cumulus, in which the app is named after, encourages users to take a break from their hectic schedules to enjoy the outdoors. Beyond its basic functions of providing current weather reports, allowing users to get into the habit of taking rests outside could lead to several health benefits.
