Jonas Hecksher conceived the original design to the single font family “Italian Plate” in 1998. The inspiration was the study of Italian car number plates from the 60'ies with its round, condensed profile and similar type characteristics of that period. The newly released super family goes from No1 to No7 in a mix of various type classes and widths.
The newly released super family is a result of a playful exploration where the original design has been revamped and applied to different type classes with more distinctive details and features.
The result is an extensive versatile font family with a broad variety in designs joined by a large x-height, oval shapes and a Italian design heritage. The “Italian Plate” super family various from No1 to No7 – some in different widths – all with their own distinctive tone of voice and personality. Each of the 17 font families are available in 10 weights with corresponding italics – all loaded with alternatives. In total 341 weights and styles that reflects Italian type traditions from mid 19’ies until today.
