A few years ago, I concluded that with print publications offering fewer opportunities for artists to comment on political and societal affairs; and with social media platforms offering greater opportunities to communicate directly with an audience, I decided to start creating a series of online commentaries using a poster format.
The tag lines are all comments taken from articles I've written for various publications. Many of them come from a piece I wrote for the Atlantic Monthly called "Express Yourself, It's Later Than You Think." As for the images, I chose not to try to "illustrate" the comments, instead choosing images that I thought would stand on their own as pictures, but which could be married appropriately to the thoughts.
So far I've done nearly 50 posters, with more currently in the works. These have been published on my website, bradholland.net, on my blog, Poor Bradford's Almanac, and published by Print Magazine Online in 2008, as well as in various print publications both in the US and abroad. The posters are also available as signed Giclee prints, both from my website and through the fine art rights management organization, Art Resource.
