This design is a call for entries poster for Art + Effect, a high school poster contest sponsored by the Graphic Design + Fine Art Department at Cabrini University. The theme of this competition was immigration. The goal was to interest high school students to participate in this contest.
In this call for entries poster, I wanted to provide an abstract depiction of "immigration" by using the arrows to represent people moving to and from countries without using images literally. The treatment of title, "immigration," in the large bars has a "banned" or "caution tape" quality connecting to some of the negative perceptions associated with immigrants. By demonstrating this social justice topic in a conceptual manner, I present high school students with one of many ways they can tackle this subject and help foster stronger ideation.
Many people were drawn to the symbolic quality of the arrows as well as the unique color palette.
