Every year the Asian Pacific American Resource Center (APARC) helps host the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Recognition Celebration at California State University, Fullerton. The goal of the assignment was to create a flyer for the event that had potential to be reused in other contexts for the center.

Since the Asia-Pacific region is so vast, special considerations were taken into account for the design. I wanted to showcase all the countries involved, so I went with the map approach for the region. This way, even those unfamiliar with the region can understand the event. The map is placed on a koi--a symbol of perseverance, such is student life and the act of graduating. The koi swims against a current of East Asian and Polynesian-styled waves. The base color is a nice blue to symbolize the calmness the center provides for its students.
