Bechtel is one of the most respected global engineering, construction, and project management companies in the world, and a cornerstone of innovation in the industry. Since the company’s founding in 1898, Bechtel has completed more than 25,000 extraordinary projects in 160 countries on all seven continents. Bechtel commissioned visual communications firm, Nesnadny + Schwartz (N+S), to create its Online Annual Report. The firm’s role was to develop the conceptual and visual theme, create the overall design, and manage production from inception to launch.
Bechtel is known the world over for designing and building complex projects that are literally world-changing. To communicate this year’s theme of “Dream Big” N+S designed a minimalist homepage where the theme emerges out of an animated sky, and then transitions into Bechtel’s massive Curtis Island project. Colored text boxes punctuate the “Dream Big" theme, then scroll down into the Executive Letter. The “Dream Big” concept is further supported throughout the site with an interactive Project Highlights map, animated cloud headlines, small sidebars where employees define what “Dream Big” means to them, and large monotone hero images that morph into full color photos, representing visions becoming reality.

As a privately-held, family-owned company, Bechtel is not required to post a financial statement. The 2017 Bechtel Report is the principal site used by the company to communicate corporate goals and year-end accomplishments with employees, directors, customers, as well as various local, state, and national governmental agencies. To date the Bechtel Online Annual Report has received favorable reviews and comments from both external and internal audiences based on the project’s easy-to-manage user interface, fluid animations, impactful design, and responsive programming.
