The Savannah Film Festival, now in its 18th year, welcomes thousands of movie fans, industry types and special guests for a weeklong celebration of film. With more than 100 events scheduled, a sturdy, stylish and informative guidebook is necessary to help attendees navigate festival offerings.
After researching film festivals in the U.S. and abroad, multiple designs were considered. For the 2015 edition, golden laurels were custom designed, handcrafted and photographed for the cover image, which when placed on a field of warm gray,, lends an air of sophistication and longevity. The warm gray color continues inside the book, and is complemented by a light bronze to make the simple, elegant color palette.
The Savannah Film Festival 2015 pocket guide is a digest-sized, 194-page book with information on award winners, screenings, panels and other details of the 2015 Savannah Film Festival. The SFF 2015 website contained the information found in the pocket guide, employing a user-friendly responsive design for mobile. The event badges and banner carried the main visual to wearable collateral and large format outdoor signage.
The book’s organization is as important as the aesthetic. The guide opens with a letter from the university’s president and founder, welcoming visitors to the festival. This is followed by details on local transportation options, venue locations and ticketing information.
Next, the photos of jurors and honored guests were all converted to duotone to match the color palette for consistency. The master schedule of all the events follows, and the back half of the book contains descriptions of the screenings, panels and workshops.
The same information was found on the website, with direct links from titles to descriptions and locations. The festival badges and outdoor banner across from the largest theater featured the golden laurels and warm gray background.
