PayPal exists to connect shoppers and sellers with a secure and easy online checkout. But as competitors continue launching their own payment options, it’s becoming more important for PayPal to break through and find unique ways to connect with online shoppers. We were tasked to create a digital experience that attracted new PayPal users and gave them a reason to checkout with PayPal.
Our creative ambition was to make something that truly adds value to the online shopping experience. Our idea hinged on a key shopping insight: researching and discovering products online has become just as gratifying to online shoppers as the purchase itself. This led to Local Selects – a digital event and microsite that brings the ease and accessibility of online shopping with the sense of exploring new products and destinations. In a two-hour live event, our host guided shoppers throughout an iconic LA market, introducing viewers to new shops and products to buy online via PayPal.
Our first Local Selects event drove 3,400 new PayPal signups and over $150,000 in transactions. It even led to 377 new merchant account sign ups, showing us how Local Selects could additionally be used as a tactic for attracting merchants. We’re excited to announce that the next one will be in New York – stayed tuned.
