We created this piece as a poster for “KOTIKISSA”, which sells cat merchandise, with doubts about the flexibility of cats as the theme.
We designed the body of a cat moving around freely graphically to portray strength and carefreeness. We used the “chigiri-e” technique which involves tearing and pasting colored paper on a part of the cat’s body to depict the texture of the cat’s fur. Chigiri-e is a new form of expression that is nostalgic in some respects, making this a poster that links to cats which have been loved by people both in the present and the past.
We were able to attract cat lovers and non-cat lovers who shared our ideas, and it was a great opportunity for us to get the word out about KOTIKISSA. Since KOTIKISSA donates half of the proceeds from the sale of its products to animal welfare organizations, I would like to start producing original goods to further promote the brand.
