This poster series, part of an ongoing internal engagement initiative - Studio Out of Office (SOOO) - was produced to promote a studio visit to “The Senses: Design Beyond Vision” at the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum. The exhibition features a collection of design objects that use all five senses to provoke the viewer. Similarly, the poster series seeks to inspire a visceral response in its audience with its depiction of each sense.
The posters embody the abstract phenomenon of sensory perception in fun, ironic, self-referential ways. Surreal typographic compositions evoke unique aspects of each sense. The viewer perceives how these posters may sound or how they may smell despite being computer generated creations. The hyperreal, densely layered stylistic approach results in a whimsical and uncanny take on the five senses.
