What does it take to be a caregiver? To spend each and every day in the service of another? To offer yourself, your compassion, your hope to those who need it most? To help the sick gather their strength so they can one day bask in the sunshine of brighter days? In our opinion, it takes a special person, one overflowing with empathy, compassion and selfless love. And those are the people working at BayCare. Those are people we want to celebrate.
What does it mean to be a caregiver? The answer to this question was given to us fully by Emily Dickinson in her untitled poem of kindness and compassion that leads with the line, “If I can stop one heart from breaking.” With but a handful of words, she manages to capture exactly what it means to dedicate your life to helping others, to place the welfare of others above your own. That’s why we chose her poem “If I can stop one heart from breaking” to be the inspiration for our newest BayCare Humanity at Work commercial, which will be airing during upcoming special event programing including the Grammy’s and Academy Awards.
Sad to say, the health care system defines patients by their illness rather than their humanity, and takes far more interest in symptoms than feelings. But BayCare is rewriting what’s been written in stone and shaking the very foundation of health care. We’re creating a brand new health care model, whose foundation rests on recognizing and respecting each patient’s humanity; on displaying real compassion and real empathy; on meeting the needs of every community and every individual; and on providing quality care that is always available and easily accessible. Simply put, it’s a new prescription for the future of healthcare.
