We, freshmen, of the department covering fine arts, were assigned to do a short animation for the Academy. The theme was "New Years greeting card" and the medium was open, but it had to be animated. It was necessary to present our sinopsis and storyboard, so we could get approved to start working on the project.
The goal was to understand the process of creating moving images with basic elements of the visual language with the help of sound and music. It was also necessary to learn how to present a project with a sinposis and storyboard, to inform the cliant about the process.

My idea was to create a story about a student whose crativity flies away in their dreams and comes to a place where they can express those creative urges. In this case this place is the Academy. I wanted to present their escaping dreams with a red light beam flying thrue the corridors and studios of the Academy. I needed the light to feel tangible in the environment and to interact with it by creating shadows and lighting up certain objects, which could'nt be mimicked with computer effects. The way I decided to accomplish that, is with long exposure photographs with a moving light to crate a trail. The photographs were later sequenced, creating a stop-motion animation with no additional computer after-effects. To crate the movement of the light trail seamless, we had to do many practice runs to get the correct speed of the light trail. It was importat to bo able to slow down or speed up the sequences to our liking in post productuon.
The music and sounds were created after the video was edited to mach certain moments with the intesity of the music.

The stop-motion animation I created in my first year of study, was later selected for the Academy's official new years greeting card, which will be published on the website and social media. The sequences and photographs used for the animation, will also take paper form for sending New Years letters.
