MATSUKAZE TEA was born from the work of Ono Michiko, who wanted to allow many different people, even in Canada, to enjoy the taste of Japanese tea. Ono is a Japanese tea advisor accredited by the Nihoncha (Japanese Tea) Association and furthermore a tea sommelier accredited by the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada. It was important for the tea's packaging to display the merits of Japan and a wide variety of tea to overseas customers, all in a highly convenient package.
The various tea production regions, tea leaves, and types are made easily visible through the use of a bicolor design and font choice. The packaging's graphic design prioritizes an easy to read, English and French bilingual composition, while making sure the Japanese text also stands, resulting in three corresponding languages. Additionally, the label's use of gradation, on top of graphics which symbolize Japanese tea plantations and raw materials, evokes the various climates of the tea fields and Japan's four seasons.
By using a soft, clean Japanese minimalist aesthetic, the colorful design results in a very pleasant package. Moreover, the easy to use zip lock feature and label have made the package into a collectible, which has greatly contributed to client branding and led to an increase in sales.
