Snug harbor is a cultural center on Staten Island, NY that included botanical gardens, performing art centers, farming programs, a children museum, historical landmarks, and galleries. This is a place that is near and dear to me that I visited frequently when I lived on Staten Island as a child with my family I wanted to create a branding system for snug harbor that reflected its diverse programming and beautiful landscapes.

I chose to use cut paper to create an illustrative and inviting set of icons for the many gardens and museums of the center. I wanted to use very vibrant colors that would stand out in the city and draw people in to this hidden gem on the forgotten borough. The cut paper style was also used in the creation of a map and color became an important branding element not only to express liveliness and excitement but to distinguish information in ticketing, maps and other printed collateral.

This rebrand solution reflects the goals of the cultural center while maintaining a beautiful visual style that both sets them apart from their competitors and is recognizable by their consumer base.
