The Lincoln Marathon is a long-standing tradition in the city of Lincoln, Nebraska. As with every poster created to promote the race, the concept must tie into the city’s namesake, Abraham Lincoln.
The 2019 rendition is a handcrafted representation of a race bib as if the man himself participated in the marathon. Period-accurate, this linen bib is hand embroidered on a tea-stained slub weave and affixed to a vintage suit with aged safety pins.
11,000 runners from all 50 states and 2,500 volunteers took part in the 42nd annual race on May 5. The poster was appreciated by runners because it’s a historical twist on a familiar symbol.
