I have been deeply concerned, as so many of us have, about the politicization of wearing masks during the pandemic. This political perspective seems to include a disturbing social undercurrent meant to intimidate and terrorize other racial and ethnic groups. The intention was to provoke powerful feelings in the viewers and provoke emotionally charged dialogue.
The concept of the poster is the use of a dramatic graphic that combines the ear straps found on the face masks commonly in use during the pandemic and the mask (or hood) worn by a white supremacist terrorist group. The text reinforces this by morphing the word with the abbreviation of the group's name.
Posted on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, the poster received both positive (those who support my position) and negative reactions (those who strongly disagree with my position). This is a resounding success because it provoked the response that I hoped.
