We first met international model, Bobby Roaché, on assignment for our 15 Renwick penthouse campaign and discovered that not only did he have an impressive modeling and acting career--touring 5 years with Beyoncé during her “Irreplaceable” tour--but he also had designed his own impressive line of sunglasses. Upon learning this, we knew we had to feature him in our upcoming issue of Epic Eye Magazine. For the feature story, we showcased original photography of Bobby, which we also utilized for the poster image to announce the magazine's release.
Bobby Roaché has an iconic face in the modeling industry, but we wanted the design of his sunglasses to take center stage. In a reversal of expectations, we photographed Bobby straight on and in near silhouette, drawing the focus to his sunglasses with strongly reflected light. For the overlaid text design, we selected a color complimentary to the overall blue tone of the image for maximum impact in a beautifully simple, but well-integrated overall design.
The result is a highly graphic and boldly colorful image that communicates Epic Eye's feature story headline, "The Man Behind the Mirror," with Bobby’s face receding mysteriously behind his reflective sunglasses. Of the five poster designs we completed for Epic Eye, the Bobby Roaché poster has the strongest modernist appeal and makes a pure but strong graphic statement.
