Having lived abroad for the last decade and now with the current pandemic situation being unable to travel home to the UK I wanted to explore my cultural heritage. To visually investigate my home town's heritage and that led me to explore some of the music and films of bygone eras. Resulting from this, George Formby, was identified as a prominent figure hailing from my home town and his music and comedy take me to a place of nostalgia for an era I never even knew. Things seemed so much simpler back then
I took a minimalist approach to this and allowed George himself to be the focal point of the piece. I used a simple grid structure and clean sans serif type. The paper textured background being a hat tip to the newsprint advertising where George's artist endeavours would have been promoted and the large background type form the stage on which George stands in order to direct the viewer's eye.
