This festival branding project included a series of posters. Part of the foundation of the project was to understand the essence of the festival and to create visuals that reflected that. The goal was to enchant the viewer and give them a taste of what one of the most famous events in the world had to offer.
I chose Carnevale Di Venezia or the Carnival of Venice. The first direction I approached was still within my comfort zone at the time, illustrations. But after taking a step back and remembering what drew me to the festival in the first place—decorative masks and costuming and the city’s architecture—I decided to work with collage. I used elements of the city’s architecture along with floral elements to convey a sense of romance since Venice is known as a city of romance. The typography was initially a serif, but I changed it to a tall, condensed sans serif which allowed the collage elements to shine.
Although time-consuming and challenging, the results were all worth it. The final posters successfully show off the beauty, mystery, and elegance of the festival, which has been going strong for hundreds of years.
