We wanted to make sure the art wasn’t just another pretty picture of a celebrity, so focused on strong imagery from the film. We looked for powerful caught moments that revealed Selma’s journey of personal acceptance and resilience living with a disability, and also reflected her unique style and grace. Our goal was to find visually arresting shots that felt artful yet still conveyed a tone of seriousness and sophistication.
We chose to show a moment from the scene where Selma was floating in her pool in a Yves Saint Laurent dress. We felt this image was unique, attention-grabbing, and reflective of the film’s purpose. It literally and figuratively submerged this notion of glamour and celebrity to encourage the audience to focus on Selma, the woman, as she stays afloat, navigating her path to peace and serenity living with multiple sclerosis.
