I was asked to shoot the album art for the fashion-conscious musician Granite Chief. I wanted to create a cover image that would pop graphically (framing, lighting, color, etc.), while also paying homage to his love of street fashion and classic American automobiles.
Approach
We shot at high noon on a sunny day, utilizing the High Speed Sync capability of the MOVE kit to add color and contrast with gelled strobes. The high sun gave the hard drop shadow that I wanted as a graphic part of the image, and the strobes provided drama. I prefer to work "in camera," so everything you see is in the RAW file - including all of the color.
