The goal of this project was to take an outdoor portrait shot. There were no limitations on the scene or subject that could be chosen.

I asked my friend to model for this shot after church because I liked how full her Afro looked. When we started the shoot, she was wearing a colorful jacket, but it did not seem to create the effect I was looking for. I told her to take it off so she would model with just her black tank top to help reinforce the natural theme of the shoot. I also got her to stand on a table so that the sky would be the only thing in the background. Deciding on a black and white filter was a nice finishing touch which highlighted the minimalistic feel of the photo.

This photograph was well-received by my classmates and professor. The model’s thick Afro works hand in hand with the clouds in the sky to create a majestic stance. Her earrings and necklace are both simple but add a touch of shine to the composition. The photo was kept in black and white, to keep focus on the natural looking face of the model and how she is interacting with the sky.
