Villa Zebra is a children's museum on contemporary art. In the exhibition ‘Welkom Thuis’ (which means ‘Welcome Home’) children explore the work of contemporary artists on the theme ‘feeling at home’.
The start of the exhibition is an immediate choice. You are in a room with seven different front doors and in your hand, you have a bunch of keys. Which front door do you choose to enter the exhibition? Which door makes you feel most at home?
Target audience: children in the age between 7 and 12 years (and their parents). The posters are distributed in the city of Rotterdam during the holidays to attract children and their parents to the museum.
On the poster you see one big and seven smaller front doors. The big door is ajar - are you also curious about what is behind the door? The text on the posters says ‘Welcome Home’ and a cat is already waiting to enjoy a cuddle with you.
I see it as a challenge to work on a design for children that is attractive but not childish. It is important to take children serious.
The result is a poster that makes you curious about the exhibition.Fun fact: the client decided to give the exhibition walls the same colour as the door on the poster.
