For my third year graphic design thesis I set out to educate visitors and the people of Toronto alike of the city’s architectural history. Revival is a multi-platform educational tool that brings Toronto’s architectural history back to life in order to create a greater sense of pride toward the city of Toronto. The desire to find a solution to this problem arose after visiting many great cities abroad, where it is easy to find yourself immersed in the culture and history when walking around their streets. This preservation of architecture creates culture and pride for the inhabitants of the city. When compared to many large cities, Toronto is considered young and does not have the support of centuries of history behind it. Coupled with this fact is the fact that city planners throughout the years have mismanaged the development of our city. Each year Toronto is becoming more and more recognized as a world class city and is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, making cultural and historical understanding highly important to moving forward progressively.
Revival is an interactive mobile application that educates the user of Toronto’sarchitectural history. The application allows the user to view where demolishedarchitecture once stood, play quizzes, favourite, check-in and share buildings onFacebook. With the ability to access augmented reality content availablethroughout historical signage and print material.
