Prof. Dietmar Eberle is a professor for architecture at the renowned ETH Zurich. The book is about his design method of his course.
Prof. Eberle is teaching in the foundation year. His course is structured by 9 architectural parameters (place, structure, envelope, program, materiality…). Each of these parameters is subdivided in 9 steps (topic, essay, terminology, exercise, analysis, plans, models, images. Thus, 9x9. During the program, the task for the student gets more and more complex.
9x9 is a complex structure. On one hand the structure should be visible and help the reader like a navigation. On the other hand, it should not overpower the rich content. It was important to present the large quantity of students work at its best, every single one. The symplicity of the iconic cover stands out in every bookshop.
