An experimental type poster that explores the process of physical letterform development and construction.

Heavy Metal is three generations in the making. The project is constructed from visually arranging metal pieces collected over a 50 year period by my grandfather (Wayne Fairfield), father (Jeff Davie) and myself. The title references not only the metal used to create the primary letterform, but also the compound percentages common in creating lead typography.

The resulting piece belongs to a series of intensive typographic explorations meant to stimulate the boundaries of traditional letterform creation.
