To design a poster to announce and promote a jazz concert performed by a local community jazz band, comprised of both professional musicians and talented local players.
This concert, instead of focussing on the music of a certain jazz composer or arranger/player, had "The Great American Songbook" for its theme--a concert of a variety of American jazz classics. The unifying element was American jazz, so I created a tricolor interpretation–pink shoulder, dark neck, tan face–of a confident "Lady Liberty", wrapped in stars and stripes with treble clef earrings."
The music, artistically arranged and inspiringly performed, was soul warming on a cold March night. I believe that the poster connected with enough of the audience to have them arrive at the unusually well-attended concert.
