Assignment
This assignment is to create a senior thesis project of our own selection.
Approach
For this project, I want to create a project that can represent me. So I chose a very important forgotten Chinese history, Nanking massacre, which I have done a lot of research and study on. I want to design a survivor storybook that can educate people not to forget history. At the same time, I hope that people will learn Chinese culture, so I use many design elements related to Chinese cultures, such as brush writing, paper cutting, and ink painting. When I read the story of the survivors, they often mentioned that they hid under the bed and peeked at the wooden window to see if the Japanese had come. And this is the inspiration for the cover of my book. I hope that when we open this book, we open a door to their story.
Results
This project end up with a memory kit for Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanking, called” scars on my heart”. This memory kit includes The Survivor storybook, 8 bookmarks, and a rain flower stone. The storybook tells the true story of 6 Survivors and two important wetness. Each bookmark belongs to one of the survivors in the book. The rain flower stone, which is a very famous stone in Nanking, represents the city of Nanking.
