Passeig de Gràcia is an avenue in Barcelona where luxury shops and heritage sites stand side by side. Named after the avenue, passeigdegracia.com is an online magazine featuring a curated selection of editorial photography, illustration and commentary on design, lifestyle, fashion and culture. For its "Space" issue, the tenth since its debut, the magazine collected features on the theme.
Inspired by the magazine's namesake, I created a series of illustrations paying tribute to iconic facades along Barcelona's Passeig de Gràcia. Scenes of contemporary activity breathe life into such buildings as Casa Batlló, Hotel Omm, Cines Comedia, Suites Avenue, Passeig de Gràcia 99 and Fundació Antoni Tàpies. Small, animated movements are incorporated to break the buildings' static quality, with glimpses of characters and private spaces through balconies and windows.
The illustrations demonstrate the continued relevance of Passeig de Gràcia's historical aspects, and the undiminished charm of its spaces in contemporary times. The magazine editor made special mention of the series in his editor's note, as did the Casa Batlló institution in their website's news section.
