Our assignment was to rebrand Epiphany Dance Theater, a San Francisco-based contemporary performance company focused on large-scale interdisciplinary collaborations that blend dance, music, theater and spoken word into multi-textured experiences of community, culture, and place. Founded and originally branded in 1997, the artistic director Kim Epifano wanted a new brand identity to celebrate its 20th year that expressed the movement, energy, community, and wabi-sabi nature of their work.
Bending, folding, pushing, pulling, challenging perceptions—the new mark creates a whole from juxtaposted, dynamic parts. There is a bold edginess to the mark that supports the company’s “on the stage and in the street” motto. In keeping with their performances, you can’t help but take another look.
In late October 2017, Epiphany Dance Theater launched their new brand and website (also designed by Studio Scott) in conjunction with a performance they produce each year—the 14th Annual San Francisco Trolley Dances. We’re looking forward to hearing how it’s all been received!
