Our assignment was to create a website inspired by our favorite musical artist. I chose Janis Joplin as she was truly the "Queen of Rock." I illustrated all of the flowers around her to bring in a new fun "hippie" vibe and I created the logo and the overall design of the website. We needed photographs so I did collect them from various sources on the internet, all photography is not mine but was used only for the purpose of the project. I did change the photos in Photoshop and edit them to match my design.
My approach was to take the beauty, dynamism, electricity, and soul from Janis Joplin and her music and embody it in a website. I tried to update it so it was not too retro by using brighter colors and illustrated flowers. I made the design flow so that it would be almost like looking at a lava lamp. I wanted it to be a website that was not a commemoration or memorial, I made it to look like it would be a website she could use today if she were still alive and that people can relate to and enjoy.
My result ended up better than I had expected. I had to change it various times and add many different illustrations or adjust color tones, saturation, or opacity levels. The typography helps to keep with the time period of her culture but the colors, flowers, and fun I added to the mock website design gave it a more modern approach. I wanted to pay homage to my favorite musical artist and hopefully I did so.
