With many companies moving to exclusively online reporting, we wanted to prove the value of having a printed annual report. We determined to bury the myth that printed annual reports are tired and boring. We therefore embraced the challenge of creating a publication which set new standards, both in terms of the quality of its content and design.
We deliberately adopted a stylish, occasionally daring, approach, in order to painting a full and complete picture of AkzoNobel. Not just in terms of how the company performed financially in 2014, but also with a view to highlighting various other aspects of our business and how we contribute to the world around us. So as well as offering detailed and useful factual information, we also determined to make it highly visual and a pleasure to read. We wanted readers to really understand AkzoNobel beyond the numbers and get beneath the surface of what we do.
Our 2014 annual report sets new standards in integrated reporting. Featuring full details of AkzoNobel’s financial results and sustainability performance, it provides a complete picture of how we create economic, environmental and social value. With a strong emphasis on design, it version ensures that a wide variety of information is presented clearly and is easy to understand.Striking imagery is used to create an impact, while tabbed pages and color coding aid navigation. Subtle and creative use of UV varnish also adds to the quality feel and the overall impression of elegance and sophistication.Meanwhile, embedded Layar technology brings pages to life, linking to digital content on the website version, such as videos and infographics.Widely regarded internally as our best ever, the 2014 annual report strikes that perfect balance between level of detail, clarity of information, stunning presentation and ease of navigation.
