We are using this self-promotion packaging in the shape of an acorn, the seed of our commitment to the future, to share with all our clients and partners our desire to return to nature, in a sustainable way, what is taken from it by the raw materials we use and that inspire us to create packaging every day.
In this packaging, the acorn took shape and we packaged 2 Portuguese icons – Port Wine and Cork – to mark the year the company was founded (98) and to commemorate the 89 awards we received in 2016.
The shape represents our seed and the content reflects our contribution to greater sustainability and environmental conservation. Produced from wood and cork, with no recourse to oil derivatives, the base is a cork agglomerate monoblock, where the seed (acorn) is kept and we laid down the challenge to reuse this packaging and to plant the more than 200 cork oaks we are offering. The cork oak is a protected species and plays a vital role in the ecosystem: it contributes to the conservation of the cork oak forest, “the lungs of the Mediterranean”, conservation of biodiversity and the retention of 14 million tonnes of CO2 per year.
In the centre of the package, there is a wooden ring which can be used to mark the planting of the cork oak in its permanent position. Later, the threaded screw system developed will also serve for collecting more acorns from the cork oak forest and thus repeating the cycle.
As is the tradition in Portugal, let us make a toast with an LBV 2012 Port, with an original label that has a pocket containing instructions for planting the cork oak and a message from Omdesign: “This is our commitment, to the future and to you... A toast to sustainability and to our partnership!”
