This poster was my entry in a design competition sponsored by Posters for Tomorrow. Posters for Tomorrow is a not-for-profit organization that promotes awareness and activism on human rights issues, through posters. The UN Declaration of Human Rights proclaims that everyone has the right to housing so they can live “safely in peace and dignity.” The theme of this particular competition was the crisis of homelessness, worldwide.
Approach
The downward arrow created by an upside-down house is a visual metaphor for the broad decline experienced by individuals who have lost their homes. The architectural details of a house are anthropomorphic: They form a face. This emphasizes the personal nature of this catastrophe and serves as a reminder to society that homelessness should not be faceless.
Results
My poster, titled HOMELESS, was elected to be in the top 100 out of thousands of international submissions from designers, artists and students. The top 100 group of posters are exhibited in traveling global exhibits for one year to create public awareness of the issue.
