The old Porto City Theatre (Teatro Municipal do Porto) reopened as a public entity in Januray 2015, with a brand new agenda. Belonging to the City Hall, the Theatre needed a new image expressing simultaneously its openess to the city and its double nature that develops in two buildings, Rivoli and Campo Alegre.

The new visual identity for Porto City Theatre was designed beginning with the dot from the city logo.To its applications, we kept in mind that the Theatre is a great heritage in the city and for its inhabitants. We approached the visual identity by the use of very classical and clean typography that would somehow illustrate this mentioned above. It is also a theatre that approaches its cultural mission in the city with a comtemporary impact throughout its programme.

The image for Porto City Theatre is a complex and layered cultural project that we represented graphically via colourful shapes and sheets of information, piled on top of each other, over a classic and historical base. The result is a mix of classic typography with multiple layers of posters inside one single frame, creating a complex system of shades. The strong and classic typographic system allows us to give the layout a solid structure that is maintained troughout the various communication materials.
