Over the past decade, we’ve worked with a variety of different nonprofit animal groups, ranging from helping homeless dogs to supporting abandoned and abused big cats and promoting ocean conservation. We have great empathy for all animals and we were shocked to learn that up to 100 million sharks each year are having their fins hacked off and their living bodies thrown back into the sea to suffer a cruel death -- all in the name of making big profits off shark fin soup. So we made it our mission to create an informative poster that would turn around people’s perceptions of sharks and show them who the real predators of the deep are. Also, we wanted to stress how vital this issue is to maintaining the critical balance of our oceans.
We wanted to convey the facts in a compelling way with a shocking twist, so we intentionally designed it like a movie poster. We even used some subliminal tricks showing what you think is a shark fin, until you look closer and discover that it is actually the blade of a knife. All to ultimately portray how sharks are being cruelly victimized and exploited by people. Worst of all, if this murderous trend continues the whole environmental and ecological balance of our oceans will be negatively affected. Declining numbers of sharks could throw off the whole food chain in the ocean and have tragic consequences.
The poster has created quite a buzz and definitely got people talking about the critical issue of (shark finning), which a lot of individuals may have previously been unfamiliar with. By bringing this horrific treatment of sharks to the forefront, we’ve increased awareness of the problem and helped bring people together in support of ending shark finning and preserving the ecological balance of our oceans.
