This poster is an advertisement for an exhibition dedicated to graphic designer, writer, educator, and radical thinker Victor Papanek.
Approach
My objective with this poster was to convey the idea of “design” as a process that gleans beauty and meaning from order and careful thought. In the creation of this poster, the idea of iteration and constraint was at the forefront. From beginning with limited type sizes and weights, to finally exploring with color, I used restriction to my advantage to create a dynamic typographic composition.
Results
Using repetition, constraint, letterforms as composition, and color to establish mood, I created a poster that speaks to Papanek's spirit, era, and attitudes towards design itself.
