An editorial illustration based on The New York Times Op Ed article: Garden of Solace
The article is about a woman who has been grieving over her mother's death for the past 25 years finally founds her inner peace in a nearby garden. In this piece, nature is personified as the woman tries to communicate her sorrow with the tree. I tried to capture the idea of acceptance in this illustration. The background is less saturated, symbolizing the woman's world was colourless due to the grief until she fell in love with this garden's nature.
This piece has a fully coloured version and a black and white version because of the possibility of it printing in black and white newsprint.
