Assignment
The assignment was to design and model a full scale electric cafe racer motorcycle for the year 2020. We where given a Suzuki chassis as a base to build on top of and modify.
Approach
The approach started with scanning in the frame and sketching around possibilities for different proportions. This was followed by ideation sketches and sketch modeling on top of the frame with TecClay and other materials such as acrylic, foam core, and 3D printed parts (handle grips and headlight). We then narrowed our focus on what our user and target market was looking for to help steer us to what is the final direction.
Results
The outcome was by far the most successful project I have created at school. The client was quite happy with the results and our dedication to the ergonomics partnered with a modern design ascetic. It may not run, but almost anyone that sees the full scale model for the first time thinks it is a real motorcycle which was the goal.
