In 1972, the McLeod Center – then called Open House – opened the first methadone-assisted treatment clinic in the Charlotte area. In 2018, over 16,000 unique patients received treatment through McLeod Center’s programs. The life-changing work of the McLeod Center was made possible by the vision of one woman, who believed that individuals struggling with substance use disorder should always be treated with dignity and respect. These remain our organization’s core values today. Patients can expect to be treated without discrimination against any individual on the basis of race, creed, religion, disability, gender, gender identity, age, sexual orientation or national origin.

As part of a renovation project for a new Charlotte location for the McLeod Center, designers at DLR Group developed a concept for a potential mural to be placed in the lobby. The design highlights founder Dr. Jonnie H. McLeod, images of the diverse visitors of the Center, while promoting the new messaging that evolved from the Center's recent rebrand. The project consisted of incorporating the new brand messaging, the new logo and a concept for a large scale wall mural. On-brand colors, custom typography, decorative elements and detailed illustration drove the final concept. DLR Group was responsible for all experiential graphic elements for the project. ​​​​​​​

The client thought the poster captured the essence of the founder in a way that paid homage to the work she had done creating the center.
