The Starlight Music Series campaign for the Rockefeller Center celebrates a once-a-year event at the Top of the Rock observation deck where musicians play music up on the sky deck at night.
To celebrate and drum up excitement for the special event, the campaign plays off two elements: the 30 Rock Building Graphic, which is a common motif in the Rockefeller Center’s marketing material, and a musical element, in this case, a microphone. We connected these two shapes to “play” off one another. Set against a dramatic, black background, the graphic shapes take on the magical character of a nighttime event. Stars twinkle in the background, reminding the viewer that the event will be high up in the sky.
The client was very pleased with the campaign, which was printed throughout New York print magazines, as well as posted throughout the Rockefeller Center plaza. Set against the multi-colored plaza, the simple, arresting design and colors capture one’s attention and curiosity, and draw in the viewer to learn more about the event.
