Because the project was very open-ended, it was difficult at first to come up with possible solutions. I started by making several wordlists with different themes, such as food, manmade objects, plants, animals, etc. I then sketched out a quick illustration of each word and tried to connect objects with a similar shape, size, and/or color that I could combine into a logo concept. One of the combinations I narrowed down was hair pigtails and different foods, specifically vegetables, and desserts. I found that peppers best matched the shape of how pigtails are typically shown in drawings and decided on that. I sketched out the logo idea a few more times to better understand how it would roughly look, then started to build it in Illustrator. I designed multiple variations digitally before I got a design that I looked best. I then chose a name (I decided on Polly because it was short, simple, and started with the letter P like peppers), chose a color palette that was appropriate for a spicy pepper logo concept, and chose a typeface. Much like the sketching and designing process, I went through many variations for the typeface before I found one that fit the roundness and curves of the logo. Finally, I added a few extra details like freckles and eye shine to make the logo feel more friendly, as before I felt it looked too generic and clipart-like.
