Assignment was to combine letterform+image. the 1st step was to create a wordlist to get a a general sense of possibilities. Next, I made roughs pencil sketches of my ideas to see if they are working.

I started working with the number 8 as the base for this mark and wanted to use its geometry and shape to form this new mark. I placed a surf board over the middle and started to render the waves. the symmetry of the 8 allowed me to only work one side a time and then copy and reflect. By doing this, I noticed the mark reads as an S more than an 8. So I started working more with the shape of the S. The waves seemed boring as a solid shape so a broke it up and gave it some depth.

The result is a mark for a surf shop. The mark is memorable and fun to look at. The colors are complementary and give the surf board the pop that it needs.
