The SHSU Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is a 5-year initiative to increase student retention, success, and degree completion. The University is also being evaluated by an accreditation committee this same year. The goal of the QEP collaterals is to raise awareness of the plan among the institution’s community and specifically target student, faculty, and administrators through multiple media channels. Also, instructions were shared to create a system that stayed away from the use of SHSU orange as a primary element.
The design team met with stakeholders to research and determine collaterals that would help impact the three target audiences. The concept agreed upon by the design team and stakeholders is Emerge: Rise and Shine. The idea is of steady growth, change for the better, big and bold, a challenge to students and faculty to do more, become more. The geometric pattern can be used for imagery, murals as letters weave in and out of the pattern. The triangle represents the three audiences. Large graphics displayed all around campus overlap with and “coming out of” windows. Part of saturation involved placement of graphics in a variety of locations around campus with focus on the center of the institution, the Mall area. Use of windows in buildings made the gradient/text and imagery “emerge” out of the windows, spreading onto buildings. To help support the print portion, social media and items such as screensavers were implemented.
Overall, the impact on the university was seen throughout campus. The university planning committee and administrators were impressed by the work presented and produced. The campus community has responded positively to the campaign and a second phase to the campaign has been started.
