"Reach" is a ministry for young adults at Grace Church, a racially-diverse congregation in Frisco, Texas—which is an overwhelmingly white, affluent suburb of Dallas. I was tasked with designing various marketing materials that not only captured the essence of the ministry's name, but could also be used to promote a new sermon series called "America's Racial Tug-of-War.”

The main solution ended up being an illustration that can be interpreted in different ways. It depicts the tenuous situation of race relations in America that, at times, seems as if it could go in either direction—toward progress or regression. Does it show a country made up of different people ripping itself apart? Or does it depict cooperation, brotherhood and diversity in a common struggle to all humanity?

This illustration was used widely across various media: direct mail, web/social, fliers, business cards, apparel, and presentation slides. The client was very pleased with the illustration and the accompanying graphics resulting in several additional projects.
