We initiated a poster campaign engaging local designers to create a unique mashup showcasing the names of the diverse alternative rock bands played in rotation on 90.5fm WBER. This campaign provides a priceless on-brand fundraising/promotion for this local broadcasting gem whose tagline is "The only station that matters."
We looked at the entire music catalog, and like a puzzle created headlines only using three band or artist names. Alternative music legends were side by side with one-hit wonders, local artists, and New Wave icons. These headlines were combined with a unique copy line and were brought to life in a variety of engaging illustrative styles, including the use of typeset letterpress printing.
A simple concept with massive creative legs and possibilities. Each poster communicates that 90.5 fm WBER is an alternative radio station with true diversity in its catalog where: "The Cars, Hum, Pavement", where "Thursday, Ben Folds, The Hoodies", where, "The B-52's, Air, Massive Attack", where "Kings of Leon, Spoon, Queens of the Stone Age," where "Men at Work, Filter, Garbage" and more.
No band or artist was used twice.
In the first wave, 16 unique posters were produced in all and another 20 are in the works and are set to be a key component of the radio station's fundraising efforts in 2021.
90.5 fm WBER depends on its listener support because its a school district-supported non-commercial alternative radio station owned and operated by the Board of Cooperative Educational Services. Serving the Rochester and Western New York area since 1985, WBER is well known for its commitment to the mission of providing the best access to alternative music.
