Spark Micro Grants is an NGO operating in Eastern Africa namely Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda. The common denominator for these countries is that they all are suffering from postwar and/or post genocide syndromes. Sparks mission is to help villages in the region to improve their lives on their own through education (projects) and micro grants (if needed). I was asked to help Spark capture their operations through an organization called Global Good Fund who supports smaller NGOs with leadership education and support.

My mission was to document Sparks operations as well as photographing formal portraits of members from each village. All together we were visiting 12 villages in the three countries in the span of one month. In addition I was asked to do video interviews and some video documentaries during the trip regarding the different projects the villages were presently working on.
It was a big task for me since I didn't have any assistant(s) besides one or two people from the organization that was following me on the journey. I knew I had to travel as light as possible even though i had a very ambitious plan (lights, video, sound, reflectors).
Before the trip I had to plan my work flow and prepare mentally for the mission to be able to succeed.

I was very happy with the result (and so was the "client") and very happy with the trip even though it was grueling. Up at 5:30 every morning 3-4 hour trip (bike, hike etc) to a village then spend a a few hours (2-4) in the village and then home to upload the images and go through equipment and repack and plan for the next day.
The portraits will be exhibited at a Gallery in NYC in the Spring of 2016.
